multidrug resistance profile of urinary tract infected gram positive pathogenic bacterial isolates

چکیده
conclusions all the staphylococcus aureus strains and enterococcus faecium strains were sensitive to members of the oxazolidinone class of linezolid drug. development of multi drug resistance by gram positive bacteria constitutes a very serious challenge for medical practice. despite these rising rates, it is impossible to distinguish where they have originated from and special attention has thus been directed towards specific hospital surveillance systems and strict infection control measures for these microorganisms. results four strains of staphylococcus aureus and five strains of enterococcus faecium were isolated. among the gram positive isolates, staphylococcus aureus were highly resistant to ampicillin, ampicillin sulbactam, amoxy/clav, cefixime, penicillin, methicillin, cefepime and ceftazidime. the enterococcus faecium strains were highly resistant to ampicillin, ampicillin sulbactam, methicillin, penicillin, cefotaxime, ceftazidime, cefpirome, cefuroxime, cefixime and trimethoprim and three strains of vancomycin. the multiple antibiotic indexes of these two strains were calculated as 0.428 for each strain. background multi-drug resistant gram positive bacteria that are common causes of hospital acquired infections are rapidly enhancing throughout the world objectives the present work aimed to examine pathogenic gram positive bacteria and their drug resistance profile. materials and methods a total of 50 clinical urine specimens were collected and the pathogens were isolated and identified. antibiotic sensitivity was evaluated by the kirby bauer method.

Increasing antibiotic resistance among urinary tract isolates.
A five year retrospective study was performed to identify organisms isolated from the urinary tract of 2815 children in the community and 1314 children with underlying renal problems and their antimicrobial susceptibilities. Isolates from children in the latter group were generally more resistant to commonly used antibiotics. In particular, up to a third of E coli isolates from children in the ...

INTRODUCTION This study examined HIV and malaria co-infection as a risk factor for urinary tract infections (UTIs) in pregnancy. The study group included 74 pregnant women, 20 to 42 years of age, who attended the antenatal clinic at the Specialist Hospital at Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. METHODOLOGY Forty-four of the pregnant women were either HIV seropositive with malaria infection (HIV+Mal+)...
متن کاملAntimicrobial susceptibility of Gram-positive non-urinary isolates to fosfomycin.
We aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of fosfomycin against Gram-positive non-urinary isolates collected at the microbiological laboratory of the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, Greece, in 2008. Susceptibility testing was performed by the disk diffusion method for a total of 1846 isolates; 1275 isolates (69.1%) were susceptible to fosfomycin. Specifically, 416/419 Staphylococ...
متن کاملGram-Positive Uropathogens, Polymicrobial Urinary Tract Infection, and the Emerging Microbiota of the Urinary Tract.
Gram-positive bacteria are a common cause of urinary-tract infection (UTI), particularly among individuals who are elderly, pregnant, or who have other risk factors for UTI. Here we review the epidemiology, virulence mechanisms, and host response to the most frequently isolated Gram-positive uropathogens: Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Streptococcus agalactiae. We also...

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common condition causing individuals to seek medical consultation. [1,2] It is considered as one of the major health problem next to respiratory and gastro intestinal infections in human. The primary organisms that cause UTI are bacteria and the diseases ranging from asymptomatic to severe sepsis affecting millions of people every year. [3,4,5] About 15...
